Here's what I did after trying different options.

Go to your Wifi networks

Hit the radio button (the circled i)

Change HTTP Proxy to Auto at the bottom of the screen

Change DNS to a Google Public DNS or OpenDNS - I used the former: 8.8.4.4 (remember to write down your original setting)

Don't ask me why, but this has fixed it on my end.

Thanks for posting. I have been having this issue for a month or so as well. I have the latest update of iOS9 running on an iPad Air 2. Couldn't find anyone else with this problem via Google, but was happy to find your post...not because you are having problems but because I now know I'm not alone. I hope we get a helpful response soon. My wifi tests at more than 100 Mbps consistently so I know the wifi and Internet connection is not the issue.

I Have been having the same issue, but I think I found the fix. Well, more like an annoying work around. From what I can tell, it's related to how much local storage space you have left on your device. The only way I have been able to get it to work is by making space on my iPhone's hard drive. If I have the minimum space to actually download it, it will stream from iCloud. You do not need to actually download it. You just need to have enough space for it to be an option. Very annoying, but has worked consistently for me on my iPhone 5s. Hope this helps.

I have this issue too (films won't play saying they want wifi even though I am connected to the wifi and have tested my download rate at >30Mbps), and freeing up a couple of GB on the iPad doesn't seem to have done it, but I will try to reboot and see what happens. Either way, as this is clearly a bug (it doesn't work, but it's supposed to) it would be REALLY nice if someone from Apple actually responded to this. Otherwise, what is the point of having a 'support' forum? There's no support!

Having the same issue.

This should not happen for streaming....

I should not have to worry about clearing space to STREAM a movie.

Otherwise I would just download the bloody thing.

It makes no sense. Apple needs to fix this crap.

AND if this is the case. Apple needs to allow digital movie streaming across Vudu, Etc

That way since Apple is not allowing me to stream a movie I paid for, I can stream it

from an actual reliable streaming source.

Since the others allow you to connect and link so movies purchased on one can be streamed

from other services.

Like redeeming a Disney digital movie via the Disney App, is also linked to my Vudu account,

so I can watch it from either.

I've had exactly the same issue, and required this page to get a workaround. Just spent an hour talking with Apple tech support, and it was confirmed that iTunes does require the full size of a movie to be free on an iOS device in order to be able to stream it. Hence for a 5GB HD movie, it would require 5GB of free space to stream. I was told that an Apple TV requires less free space as it has 'better bandwidth'... They did acknowledge that the iOS error message (saying it was not connected to wifi, rather than mentioning not having enough free space to cache the movie) was not ideal, and would escalate that to engineering. The staff I talked to all seemed to believe it was widely known that it would require free space equivalent to the full movie size, and seemed surprised I would expect anything less - though I can't find anything on Apple's own support pages stating this requirement, which would be useful information for Apple to share.

I am having the same problem. We buy these movies to watch them while streaming.

First VuDu was enabled to AirPlay form iPad/iPhone to AppleTV. Now we need 5 gb of free space to watch our paid movies? We already lose 2 gb when we first buy our phones. it's says 16GB, but really with all the preinstalled software we lose 2 - 3 gb and more than half of the preinstalled apps I don't even use.

This isn't fair. I might just go back to VuDu and play VuDu through my Blu Ray player.

Video won't play says it need to connect to wifi but I am connected to wifi.
