network connection problem

This is weird, but my Mac Book Air [MacBook Air (11-inch, Early 2015) 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7] wont connect to a WiFi Network if I have a device or a hard drive connected into the left USB port.

has anybody experienced this before?

any help would be appreciated

MACBOOK AIR (11-INCH, EARLY 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)
