Group active application icons...

Is there a way to have active applications group at the left (or top) of the dock? I envision that icons would temporarily move on app. launch. Return to orig. position on Quit. It seems silly to have to traverse all of the icons for inactive apps. Using OSX 10.8.5. Question could also apply to Yosemite or El Capitain. I would be delighted to learn that Apple has actually introduced this behavior is one of those upgrades.

Thanks, Iverson

You can get DragThing <http://dragthing.com> which can give you a dock of just your running apps (you can display it as icons and names, just the names, just the icons).

You can also create docks that display all the mounted file systems, external disks, mounted .dmg files, CD/DVDs, SD Cards, etc...

You can create docks for applications and documents.

Docks can be single click to activate or double click.

Docks can slide in from the side/top/bottom. Docks can float on top of everything. Or just be normal windows anchored to a side top or bottom.
