Canon Pixma IP6700D no longer supported in El Cap.

After printing without problem in Yosemite, El Cap brings about native (yes I know it used CUP drivers) support for my printer to an end. Real shame as this printer is a workhorse; having faithfully printed for the past several years. Oddly the IX 6700 is supported so don't make the mistake in selecting this driver as your prints will require a magnifying lens.

So there is the Gutenprint driver package which work nicely however ink levels are not communicated to the computer:

There is also PrintFab which I am trying out. It provides all the info (ink levels too!), settings, and parameters I am used to and if I can get a year or 2 more out of this printer then I'll probably go for it. Now watch Apple update Canon drivers to include the IP6700D soon after 😉

Printfab supported printers: http://www.printfab.net/printers.html

Mac Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11), Alu 20 Display, 32GB Touch5G/iPad2

I was shocked 😮, when I installed a fresh version of macOS Sierra today and the macOS said, Canon PIXMA iP6700D is not supported anymore. As my Canon PIXMA iP6700D was working fine also under OS X 10.11 El Capitan, I thought there is a way to make it work again.

Download the last installation package from Canon official website iP6700D CUPS Printer Driver Ver. 10.67.2.0 (OS X 10.5/10.6/10.7/10.8) - the driver for OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.

Open the DMG file and install the software package PrinterDriver_iP6700D_106702.pkg

At the end of the installation you will be asked to install Xcode as one library is missing. I have skipped the installation of Xcode and it works 🙂.
