How long does it take to charge an iPhone 6s?

I have an iPhone 6s, the last days I reviewed how long it took to fully charge it's battery. I'm using the charger that came with the iPhone, and charging it powered on. Had the following times:

Wednesday: From 13% to 100% 2 hours and 10 minutes

Thursday: From 40% to 100% 2 hours

Friday: From 35% to 100% 2 hours and 3 minutes

Today: From 52% to 100% 1 hour and 40 minutes

Is that normal? How long should it take to fully charge an iPhone 6s? I wonder if it's normal that no matter if iPhone is 13% or 50% charged, it always takes about 2 hours to fully charge.

Does anyone know how long it takes to reach 80%?

It all depends on what the phone is doing in the background, which adapter your using, temperature, what percent you started at.

Perhaps if you explained why your asking this, someone could give you the information you really need.

Thank you mario49, Now I know that from 80% to 100% charge should be slower than before that percent.

Now how long does it take to charge an iPhone 6s? Today I asked an Apple guy at a store and he said that I should take my iPhone to service, but I believe it's normal. Is there any way to know if my phone is fine? Thank you.

I'm back again. Tried with two different iPhones and it took from 0 to 100% about 2 hours and 40 minutes to charge while powered on.

You are way, way over-thinking this. Charging time can be affected by background tasks, temperature, minor variations in manufacturing. Put your phone on the charger at night when you go to bed. It will be fully charged and ready to go in the morning.

It will reach 80% in under an hour, then take another 60-90 minutes to reach 100%. If you use an iPad USB adapter it will reach 80% faster, as the 6 and later can safely charge at a 1.5 amp rate. Earlier models would use no more that 1 amp regardless of the capability of the power source.

The best practice, however, is to charge the phone overnight, every night. And enable automatic backups, so you will have a daily backup in case of disaster. The charging circuit in the phone will stop all charge activity when the phone reaches 100%, so there is no danger of overcharging regardless of how long you leave it plugged in.

Actually, I have had better battery time to charge than your testing as Ive had my iPhone 6S from 2-100 in less than 100 mi

It's not a contest. How long a battery takes to charge (or discharge) depends on a number of factors including temperature, processor load, age of the battery and a bunch of other things that Lawrence could better explain. Comparing how fast your battery charges to how fast someone else's doesn't have a lot of meaning or utility. Comparing how fast your battery charges against how fast Apple says it's supposed to charge has some use.

Greetings George8x,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It is my understanding you want to know how long it takes to charge an iPhone. I would recommend you read this article, it should be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

Batteries - Why Lithium-ion? - Apple

Your Apple lithium-ion battery uses fast charging to quickly reach 80% of its capacity, then switches to slower trickle charging.

Interesting commenting on an almost 2 year old post. The 6S battery capacity when new is 1715 mah. The standard USB adapter provides 1 amp (1000 ma), so if it charged at the full rate it would take 1.7 hours, or 1:42. But it doesn't charge at the full rate; it tapers off after it reaches 75%, so actual charge time using the Apple "cube" will be closer to 2:15. The 6S can benefit from higher capacity sources, up to 1500 ma. So if you use, say, an iPad USB source the full rate would be 1:10, but, with the taper, that would probably extend to 1:45.

If your phone charges faster than this that means its battery has lost some capacity. You can check that with an app such as Battery Life from the app store.
