DNS Probe Failed No Internet

I've been having problems with my wifi the last two days. The wifi bar will show a strong connection but regardless of the app I use (google chrome or safari) the webpage will constantly fail to load. When in chrome it will show the error DNS_PROBE_FAILED_NO_INTERNET. In safari it will tell me that I'm not connected to the internet.

At the moment, I can use hotspot to connect to the internet without a problem in chrome only, safari still won't work.

I have tried removing the network configuration and preference files, creating a new wifi network location with custom DNS, resetting the SMC (which would fix the problem for about two minutes, and even then the internet would be very slow in those two minutes) and unloading and reloading discoveryd.

I really don't know what else to do at this point. Any info relating to this seems to be directed at microsoft users and I'm starting to think it's a problem with my computer and not the apps in question. If anyone has any solutions, please let me know!User uploaded file

First anti-virus packages have been know to actually BLOCK internet connections. You really do not need anti-virus packages on OS X, and in many cases there have a negative impact.

A) Try using your own DNS servers

OpenDNS.org

208.67.222.222

208.67.220.220

Google DNS

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -> DNS -> [+]

If this works, it may indicate your router's, which is frequently the local DNS server passed to systems via DHCP, is mis-behaving. Sometimes restarting the router will correct that.

B) boot into Safe mode and see if the problem improves.

This will stop loading 3rd party additions that maybe interfering.

UPDATE (more info):

At first, it was only apple applications that wouldn't connect to the internet despite a strong connection (mail, imessage, safari, app store and iTunes). Google chrome worked fine. Over the past two days, however, it has stopped connecting to the internet at all. It happens regardless of the wifi network I use and therefore has to be an issue with the computer itself or the operating system (Yosemite 10.10.3). The overall speed of the computer is also lagging a bit. I have had to repeatedly force quit applications and it takes much longer to load apps like notebook than previously.

I have scanned the computer multiple times for a virus but there's nothing there. I have tried every troubleshooting technique I can come across including renewing the DHCP lease and running apple diagnostics and it has come up with nothing. I have unselected all proxies, selected 'change networks' in the advanced settings etc.

I should note that when I removed the network and config files I couldn't find the com.apple.network.identification.plist file, which I thought was unusual as I had never accessed that folder before.

I was hoping to download the new OS which is when I discovered the problem was across all apple apps. The only internet-capable mac I have access to is a university computer and I don't have permission to download software on it through the app store.

If anyone can assist I would really appreicate it. I live hours away from the nearest apple store but will obviously have to make the trip if I can find a solution here.

Thanks in advance!
