Mac Pro early 2009 processor upgrade

Many Mac Pro owners are surprised to learn that the bottleneck in their Mac pro is NOT Processor speed, or even number of processors. It is usually I/O limitations.

If you are using one spinning drive for everything, your Mac will be severely limited in what you can accomplish.

Before you replace your processor, use Activity Monitor to make certain your "CPU load" is completely used up, and you have no time spent in "Idle".

im using that mac dor cideo editing I really need more power. When I render my video my processir are in full load. Belive me I need a good one. I was thinking if I will buy a verry good video card will resolve my problem. But is not enough I really need a better procesor.

Since you upgraded the EFI, you can not use a 6-core processor like those used in the5.1. I would go for one of those.

I think the "not" in lllaass last post is in the wrong place.

With 5,1 firmware in place, you should be able to use a fast 6-core processor of the correct type, and that is by far the cheapest way to get better performance if you really are CPU-limited.
