iPad Air 2 garbled/static sound

After the upgrade to IOS9, my sound randomly becomes garbled or full of static. This will happen in any app as well as the video player and music player (movies and audio purchased from Apple). I've tried a full recovery mode restore and still get the problem. Is there an IOS problem or did my iPad spontaneously die?
