RAW files crashing when previewed in Finder

On Yosemite, selecting a RAW file allowed a small preview in Column View -- under EL Capitan, this preview takes several minute to resolve (spinning wheel icon, then a black preview image, then finally a preview). Sometimes it resolves, other times just a black image.

Similarly, pressing the Space Bar for a Quick Preview results in a spinning "waiting" icon.

Cover Flow previews work as expected.

No issue with JPG images - (or Olympus RAW files) only NEF, DNG.

Is this a known issue?

Same results on 3 separate machines:

OSX 10.11 on all

Mac Pro 2010 2.93 Quad Core with 24GB Ram - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760

Mac Pro 2010 2.8 Quad Core with 24GB Ram - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 2047 MB

This happens to me, when I click on the image in column view, it crashes, my computer needs to restart and my screen is filled with purple static. Never used to happen on previous Op systems.

I use a mid 2010 MBP, yes it's old but this problem seems to be OS related.

I have the same thing happen with my Macbook Pro Mid-2010. My workaround is turning the preview off in Finder. However, this is annoying. Have you found a fix for this problem?

From what camera? This is the latest list I could find of supported cameras.

I found a solution to the Purple Static problem. To give more insight to my particular problem:

I have a Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 2.4GHz i5 processor with 8GB RAM and an upgraded SSD. I shoot both a Canon 60D and Canon 5D Mark II. The RAW formats are all .CR2 that I deal with. Each time I would try to Get Info on a file or use the QuickLook feature, my screen would immediately turn purple and I would be forced to restart. My original solution was to turn off the Preview column and Icon previews. These was really annoying seeings how this problem only would happen with CR2 files. I tinkered around a little bit yesterday and found a solution

Solution:

I noticed in my system preferences, that I had an NVIDIA CUDA preference pane. I wasn't sure what that was doing there as I don't remember installing any extra video card drivers. I clicked on it and all it allowed me to do was check for updates. I removed the preference pane by right clicking and choosing the remove option. I then went into my Library into the preferencepane folder and deleted anything that had NVIDIA or CUDA involved in the name. I did the same in my application support folder as well. I checked both Library folders for these files and deleted them. Just as a check, I went to a CR2 file and hit space. The preview came up and the display didn't do a thing. Now my computer is running great again!
