many photos in iPhoto have turned into thumbnails. How do I get regular size back?

I have a Macbook Pro with retina display. It is one year old and I am using Yosemite OS X 10.10.5. Going through my photos I see that hundreds of my photos have become thumbnail prints. Don't know how that happened but I want my original size prints back. How do I get them normal size again?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:

  • what system are you running? 10.10.5, right?
  • what version of iPhoto are you running? Or are you running the new Photos app?
  • what fixes have you tried?
  • where is your library located?
  • did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
  • did you experience any incident on the Mac just prior to noticing the problem? If so what?
  • are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?

  • how much free space on your boot drive?
  • do you have a backup copy of the library from before this problem occurred?
