Q: AHT Error 4SNS/1/C0000008: Ts0P--124

HI, I just returned from my holiday and wanted to turn on my Early 2013 MBP 13" 2.6Ghz but the fans start spinning at full speed right away, the kernel_task jumps to 400+% and everything is so slow, that I can barely use it. Even the cursor movement is delayed.

AFter trying an SMC reset with no luck I performed an Apple Hardware Test which came back with the followi error code: 4SNS/1/C0000008: Ts0P--124

I have already figured out that this pointing at a faulty temperature sensor and I suppose I have to make a genius bar appointment but can anyone roughly tell me how much it will cost to fix this? I really need my MacBook for work, but I was not prepared to spend a big lump of money on the repair.

The fact that kerneltask jumped could also mean a software problem at play. Please see this Apple article on how to see if it's software-related:

Apps can affect Mac performance, battery runtime, temperature, and fan activity - Apple Support

The really critical bit is in the article is Step 1--setting Activity Monitor to "All processes." Failing to do that makes the test inconclusive.

A TsOP error is a Temp sensor under a palm rest. Hard to figure that it alone is the cause of the fan and kerneltask activity.

AFter restarting the device several times this morning it seems to work fine now,
The fans are working as expected and it's not overheating. I am unsure if I should still make an appointment with the Genius Bar, as the error code indicates a hardware fault, or can it be a software related issue all together?
