I see that you have transferred your music from your PC to your MacBook Pro and are getting an error message asking you to authorize your computer for older music.
The most likely cause of this is that your older music was purchased using a different Apple ID than the more recent music. The following article will provide information on how to get your purchases authorized:

Thanks for the reply
It was all purchased on the same Apple ID however after looking further it seems I need to change the permissions on my external hard drive - I only have read access which is strange as nobody had ever used this since I bought it except for myself. How do I change the permissions?
