If the battery expand, cause touch not functioning?

Hi I wanted to ask, when the battery expand then it push against the screen, does that causes the touch not functioning? because I noticed the screen of my friend's phone seems like pushed out of the body, and the touch screen initially not functioning started from the left side which is the side where the battery were located. but then now the whole screen (touch) not functioning. need some clarification. thanks. iPhone 5 ios 8.4.1
