Q: iMovie 9.0.9 crash problem

I have just updated my Mac Mini to El Capitan, and find that my old friend, iMovie 9.0.9, crashes every time I try to use it - needing me to do a force quit to get it off my screen.  I really did love this version of iMovie for the simple stuff I do - so any ideas on how to get it opeational again ?

If you can obtain a copy of iMovie 6HD, once you have it loaded it will appear as unusable i.e. there will be a white circle and a line through the icon and it will be partially greyed out.  Right click on the icon and click on "show package contents"  and work your way through the folders until you see "Mac OS X" . An icon for iMovie HD will appear.  Double click this and Terminal will open automatically and so will iMovie HD, which you can then use without any problems.  Hope this helps.

Thank you..I successfully downloaded iMovie 6HD, got it running, imported a clip. I then added a jpg - and it was black. It seems to be an El Capitan issue. I really don't know what to do next - people are relying on me to continue to edit a series of videos which I have easily done in the past.

How did you import the jpeg?  If you drag it onto the clip shelf from your desktop it should appear.  I can't think why you are having problems.  This is something I haven't experienced. Sorry I can't be any more help.  Have another go following the routine I've suggested.  Good luck.  I feel for you.  I'd had many agonising moments trying to get iMovie to work!

It's very strange - and I'm not the only one with the problem. The jpegs are there, I can see them, drag them into position, but as they play there is nothing there - just a black screen.

I've solved my problems....tried iMovie 11 but hated it, have now restored from a Time machine backup and have ditched El Capitan. All now works as it should. Not a long term solution though.

Glad to hear you've found a solution. Good luck with getting your videos finished.

It all appears to have worked itself out in the latest OS update. I am again able to use iMovie 9.0.9 with ElCapitan.
