deleting digital camera photos in Photo

There is a check box in the Import window of Photos that will let you delete the photos after import:

However, there have been a lot of reports of incomplete imports and complete deletions from the iPhone which makes me wary of such a move.

Reformatting the memory card in the camera is the safest and best way do clear the card. It resets the cards format and gets rid of any possible bad sector issues that could crop up. I would never let iPhoto or Photos erase my memory cards. In fact I would download the files from the card to a folder on the Desktop and import from there to make sure I had them safely on the hard drive and in the library before I would reformat the card in the camera. But that's just my conservative workflow.

what settings do you have for iCloud in your system preferences and in the Photos preferences and on each IOS device? If you are using iCloud Photo Library the you can not delete photos from one place only and the delete option is not available - for storage management on devices with limited storage using ICPL check the box to optimize photos on tha tdevice
