Is there a faster way to delete files?

Have a new 27" iMac. Also a 1 tb mini drive as a backup. When I used the Migration to transfer my files from my MacBook Pro, files were all mixed up on the iMac when it was finished transferring. So I downloaded everything from the MBP to the external drive and them transferred them to the iMac. Now, I am trying to delete the files from the external drive but it is extremely slow deleting them. Decided to do it one file at a time but it is very slow and time consuming. Is there a faster way to delete the files from the external? I also want to delete the mixed up files that were migrated to the iMac the first time, but it is extremely slow also. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

you can drag your mouse/trackpad and just click down and drag it over all the files you don't want and just click delete on the keyboard or right click on it and click move to trash.

I have been doing this for days but it is very, very slow deleting the trash. Surely, there is a better way. I have been waiting all day for it to empty a few file folders I put in the trash early this morning. Has taken me a couple of days to delete all the files from my backup hard drive that I had selectively chosen some files to move to the iMac.

You are doing this the most difficult way possible. The simple method is to connect your MBP's Time Machine backup via USB cable (or FW or FW 800) to your iMac. Next run Migration Assistant on the iMac, the result will be a new user account on your iMac and it will be identical to your MBP's setup. It's that easy.

When I originally used Migration from the MBP, things were jumbled up on the iMac and even some that were copies or placed in different folders. I have been going through trying to delete the copies, etc.

Well it is your call, I'm not quite sure what went wrong, in 10 years I have never seen a complaint that said Many Migration Assistant jumbled files. Is it possible there is some info you may have omitted?
