how to delete photos that are removed from album?

I removed the photos from an album by pressing the back button on the keyboard. These photos are not present in the 'recently deleted' album. How do I find and delete these photos permanently?

See the note at the end of this post:

Deleting Photos from a Photos 1.1 Library

1 - regardless of where you are in the library, i.e. Moments, Collections, albums, smart albums or projects, select the photo(s) you want to delete and use the key combination of Command+Delete to move the photos to the Recently Deleted smart album.

2 - click on the Recently Deleted smart albums in the sidebar.

3 - in the Recently Deleted album you can opt to let the photo automatically delete after the 30 day waiting period is up, delete them immediately or restore them to the library.

NOTE: deleting a photo from an album, slideshow, book, etc., with only the Delete key only deletes that photo from that item. Deleting a photo from a Moment or Collection deletes ALL occurences of that photo in the library.

Hello Again Mr. Old Toad,

Thanks so much the clarification. My MacAir has 250 GB of storage and I only have 22.53 empty space at the moment. The photos in Photos (transported this week from Aperture) take 176 GB, while documents, back up, etc .. take up the remaining space.

Each time I delete about 3 - 4 GBs of photos (the way you recommended), it seems, when I check the MacAir storage, that only about 1 GB has actually been removed.

I am taking a trip soon and I want at least about 100 GBs free .. to download photos I take (I shoot in 4 gbs memory cards).

Even if I delete all of the photos .. will it free up the space on the hard drive.

Thanks very much for your advice. It was so easy with Aperture .. where Aperture had an easy Trash folder .. which went to my Apple Trash ...

One possibility is that the migrated iPhoto library is still on disk - if that is the case you nee to delete in both Photos and iPhoto ( or archive and then delete the iPhoto library)

Since we can not read your mind until you provide information we can only make guesses

Now that you tell us that you migrated from Aperture
