My monitor occasionally goes black and a message comes up regarding the AMD display driver. Should I update the driver?

Sorry it was in Windows, and I just updated to OS X so maybe that was the problem. Will have to wait and see. Is there a conflict though?
El Capitan introduces new features. Can you check Event Viewer for such crashes? There are issues with older AMD GPUs, and some newer drivers cause problems. Can you check the the version of the AMD drivers in Windows? The easiest method is Device Manager -> Display Adapter and right-click on the AMD GPU and look at Properties and Driver tab. What is the version of Windows?
