Q: Reset forgotten log in password on Mac Book Pro
I am in urgent need of help, I changed my password on my Mac Book Pro and stopped using it for weeks and now I can't recall my password. I have tried The help page and work around Apple Tech support gave me was to press command and R keys and then boot into recovery partition and access the terminal and type ‘resetpassword’ and hit enter. However when the window pops up, I don't see any volumes or harddrives at all and so I can't change my password.
Please someone help me. I have data that I refuse to lose. Help me to reset my password.
Apple Tech support won't do anything even though I am signed in with my apple ID and have "Find My Mac" activated.
I am following the tutorial posted everywhere on resetting a password, however when I boot into recovery partition, and execute the "resetpassword" command, El Capitan does not recognize any hard drive or anything else and therefore this option to change the password is greyed out. what can I do? I am upset because I have data on my computer and I don't want to lose family photos.
Thank you in advance for anything you might be able to help me to reset or recover my password.
MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

Thank you for your help...I really appreciate it....but these workarounds don't work. I cannot change or reset a password if I cannot log in, when I changed it weeks ago, I did not choose any "hints". Also, when I set up El Capitan I was never offered the option to log in using my Apple ID.
Now restarting into recovery partition and following the tutorial above does not let me choose anything. I go to the terminal window and type ‘resetpassword’ ...Everything is greyed out because no volumes or harddrives are shown at all.
What other commands can help me out?....El Capitan is not detecting my hard drive or what?
