Q: Keynote 6.6 Jpeg export incorrect resolution

When exporting a Keynote file as images (whether exporting to Jpeg, PNG, or TIFF) the images are exporting at 1024x768 instead of the correct widescreen resolution 16x9 (Keynote is essentially letter boxing the image so it is not stretched). This has just started since the latest update-- it's worked correctly for years, this is the first issue I've had. I've changed the document properties and other settings to see if there is some setting that changed somehow. I've looked and not see if Apple has a fix coming for this and have not come up with any matches.

    To export multi-page JPGs from a preview PDF file see. Can I use preview to export multiple page PDF as jpegs?

    It appears this has been fixed in version 6.6.1:

    • Addresses problems exporting presentations as images

    If I do a graphic in Keynote and transfer it to a Word document, it loses its resolution to the point of being useless to use as a graphic.

     

    Does anyone know if Keynote 7 has this bug fixed?

    It's not fixed in 6.2

     

    Keynote version 6.2 was issued in the year 2014, before the export bug existed.

    If you are using version 6.2 and running Yosemite or El Capitan you need to update to version 6.6.2 which has no image export problems.

     

    If you are running Sierra, update to version 7.0

     

    Does anyone know if Keynote 7 has this bug fixed?

    The bug was fixed in version 6.6.1 issued in November 2015, there have been no problems in subsequent releases of Keynote, version 7 has no image exporting issues.

     

    If you are having issues in versions of Keynote since 6.6.1,   check the slide size you are using is adequate for the intended purpose:  Inspector > Document > Document > Slide Size dropdown menu

    Not so. I have 6.6.2.  When I copy and paste it into Word, it loses its resolution - badly. You cannot enlarge the image at all. Same thing happens with Pages.

     

    If I export the Keynote to Power Point, then copy and paste from the Power Point into Word, then the resolution is kept.

    What do you mean copy and paste it?

    This discussion is about exporting images from Keynote i.e. File > Export > Images

    Once the images have been exported as a TIFF JPEG or a GIF file,  they are then imported into the other application.

    There no pasting involved when using exported images.

     

    If you are referring to another procedure, you must start your own discussion to prevent confusing others and provide full details of what you are trying to do and what the problem is.

    Sorry, whether I export a Keynote graphic as a JPEG file to images, then import it as that JPEG image into Word, then I lose the resolution of the Keynote graphic.  It can look like it worked initially, but as soon as you expand the Word file to greater than 100%, then the graphic loses all its resolution.

     

    If I do a cut and paste from Keynote directly to Word, then the same thing happens.

     

    If I export the Keynote image to Power Point, then do a cut and paste from PP to Word, then the resolution is retained. But PP changes the appearance of the graphic, and it pastes as a graphic, not an image - so I'm unable to crop it.

     

    I'm using Keynote 6.2.2, OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 on a MacBook Retina Pro, and Word 15.26. 

     

    When I posed this question on the Apple support website, it directed me to this discussion.

    Im guessing that when you say "graphic" you mean a Keynote shape (Insert > Shape)

    If so, shapes can't be copied or exported or placed into other applications as vector objects.

     

    You should use a dedicated vector drawing tool for that; I use Graphic from the Mac App store: Graphic

    The vector graphic programs looked complicated, but I've finally solved my problem.

     

    I export the keynote slide at 400 x magnification to PDF - the PDF gives you an option to export it as "good", "better" or "best".  Choose best.

    Then open the PDF - it will be at full magnification, full resolution, and maintains the colours and shadows and reflections. You can do a copy/paste into Word and it maintains the resolution and colours.

    PDF has a crop function under Tools. You can copy the cropped section and paste into Word - and it maintains colour integrity and resolution too.

    You can even take a screenshot of what you want from the PDF and then drag the screenshot into Word. Beyond belief, the image is crisp and clear with true colours, and full resolution.

    I'm using OS X El Capitan 10.11.6, Keynote 6.6.2, and Word 15.26.
