Q: How do i watch a movie on an external cd drive?

I have an Asus External CD drive and i plugged it in, went to "other applications", clicked on DVD player. It doesnt come up with the movie or anything, just a black screen.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015), OS X Yosemite (10.10.5)

First double click on the disk to mount it. Then try the DVD Player.
