Updating of Mac Apps doesn't work!

Hello,

I am trying to update a few (Numbers, Keynote, Pages, Remote Desktop,...). When I start up the App Store it tells me i have 4 updates available.

Then i hit "update all", on the left side the little rotating ring comes up and rotates for about 30 seconds and after that nothing happens.

If i try to update them one on one the same happens but gives me an error message which says "product distributor file couldn't be found or is signed wrong"!

I also contacted the Apple support, which says they will respond within 48 hours, NO RESPONSE!

Please help me! I'm getting frustrated!

Several causes for this problem have been reported. Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when it's resolved.

Step 1

If possible, test on another network, such as a public hotspot (if the computer is portable) or the hotspot created by a mobile device. A network gateway that blocks some traffic, most likely on a company or university network, could be causing the error.

Step 2

Back up all data.

From the menu bar, select

System Preferences... Network

If the preference pane is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Then click the Advanced button and select the Proxies tab. If any proxy options are selected, make a note of them and then deselect them. You don’t need to change the bypass or FTP settings. Click OK and then Apply. Test. The result may be that you can't connect to any web server. Restore the previous settings if that happens.

Step 3

Rebuild the Spotlight index. If you try to search now from the magnifying-glass icon in the top right corner of the display, there will be an indication that indexing is in progress.

Step 4

Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem.

Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.

Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.

The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Test while in safe mode. Same problem?

After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

That's the exact message it gives me after trying to update Keynote! It only does that when I try to update one by one and not the "update all" function.

I've been having the problem ever since El Capitan has come out, so a couple of weeks now and i still haven't been able to download that. Right now i can't install Safari 9.0.1 or the latest security update on Yosemite. I'm also of the suspicion that there might be something with the App store, its been horrible for a while now.

Problem solved!

I called the Apple support hotline. The lady on the phone tried a lot of things with me after asking a specialist. We tried logging out, shutting down the computer, literally everything which could be the possible problem.

The next step that she told me was to create a new user account (Account name: test, password: test). After this was created I restarted the computer and logged in to the test-user. After a few seconds of doing configuration i skipped when it asked me about my apple-id. Then I opened the App-Store, logged in with my Apple-ID and tried updating my apps: AND IT WORKED!

I went back to my normal user profile and it also updated the programs which I updated before on the Test-Account on my present user. You can just do it like this always, but i decided to reset my computer. Next step was to save all my private files on a flash drive, shut down the computer and restarted it while holding down CMD+R, this gets you into a menu, then I chose to delete my whole HDD and just do a complete reset (you can find out how to do that by googling it).

I created a new user, had to set up everything again but now everything works amazing!

If you have any more questions don't hesitate do ask me!

Hello Linc Davis,

If you would be so kind as to take a look at this selection from my log list: I am having the same problem as described in the original posting, except that I have an iMac from late 2010 which I recently upgraded to OSX 10.11.1. Have been able to download OS updates since, but the Numbers, Pages, Keynote, iMovie and iPhoto updates, shown in App Store, will not download. When I go to update and try to sign in with my Apple ID and password (both verified as correct as I can log in to these support conversations), I get the spinning gray wheel and eventually have to force quit App Store. I tried restarting, starting in Safe Mode, creating a new user "Test" account, as suggested above by Luki2703, running Disk Utility to repair permissions, and so far nothing has helped.
I'm now trying one of your suggestions to Luki2703: I opened Console, cleared the window, and then tried logging in to App Store: here is a chunk of what came up in Console when I did that. I would appreciate any advice you can offer! Thanks.
