Q: iCloud: I've Lost my Data!  How to Remove iCloud?

I'm running OS 10.9.5 on a  Macbook.

I have no interest in having my data on iCloud.

Whenever I start up my Macbook I get an iCloud screen. Unfortunately, I do not fully understand iCloud and do not want to use it at all.

Today I decided to examine this a little more closely. To be honest I've no idea what is going on with iCloud, where my data is stored, and it feels like I have little control of my computing. I want iCloud eliminated from my computing experience.

To that end I read some Apple Support info online. I went into system prefs and saw some of the devices had a check next to them. I unchecked one, 'Reminders' program. After unchecking it, I now discover tha I no longer have the Reminder data on my Macbook! ***?

All my data originated from my Macbook, and is the only place I want it stored. I rechecked the box next to 'Reminder' but all my precious data is now GONE. Can I recover this with Time Machine?

I want this iCloud feature ERADICATED from my computer and my computing. I want my data stored on my Macbook, and on my Macbook ALONE. I fear making any changes to iCloud as I fear I will lose access to my data.

I need help here. How do I do this?

For the first time in over 20 years I feel I have no control of my Apple computing and it really *****.

Thanks for any assistance.

Ho w do I even determine if my applications are uploading my documents and saving them to iCloud?

I do not want ANYTHING uploaded to, or saved on, iCloud. I want all my documents to be on my Macbook Hard drive only.

What settings do I need to do to effect this change? How to do this without losing all of my data on my Macbook?

How do I prevent the iCloud login window from even appearing at startup? I want nothing to do with iCloud.

I'm worried that all my data is now unsafe, unstable, and liable to be deleted if I toy with the iCloud settings in an attempt to disable iCloud.

    Could use some guidance.

Thanks a bunch for any help.

If the box isn't checked in System Preferences/iCloud, then the application isn't uploading data to iCloud. If they are all not checked, sign out of iCloud.

    Thanks Eric.

I actually had a long tech conversation with Apple last night and went over all aspects of iCloud on 10.9.5, where hidden folders are kept, etc.
