Q: Is my Watch defective?

I did an intense cardio workout at a local gym for 60 minutes, and Exercise only detected 16 minutes of activity.  Move Goal detected was only 150 of 490 calories, which is very hard to believe considering the intensive workout.  But I hear if you sit for hours and shake the hand that your watch is on, the Watch will show you've reached the 30 minute exercise goal or more. Hi RosesRbleu,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities.

It looks like your Watch didn't record all of your exercise activity when using the Workout app. I wouldn't say the Watch is defective based on the information given. There are several steps to go through that can help ensure it's working and accurately tracks your activity.

First, be sure to adjust the fitting before your workouts to make sure the Watch can take accurate heart rate readings. See the advice in the "A better fit means better readings" section of Wearing Apple Watch.

Next, I'd recommend going through the steps in Calibrating your Apple Watch for improved Workout and Activity accuracy to both calibrate your Watch and make sure it's recording your activity. Calibration can improve the accuracy of your overall calorie estimations for other workouts in the Workout app, and the calorie, distance, Move, and Exercise estimations in the Activity app.

If all of your activity isn't detected while calibrating your Watch, try unpairing it and setting it up with your iPhone again. For help with this see Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone

    Sincerely.
