Q: Searching in Contacts doesn't work after iOS 9.1 update

Hello,

I've just updated my iPhone 5S to iOS 9.1 and since then I can't search any contact in my Phone/Contacts apps. I have tried many things like switching on/off spotlight search for contacts+couple of restarts, but it still does not work.

I really don't want to factory reset my iPhone due such a stupid bug.

Does anybody else have the same issue as me?

I have like 15 contacts starting with "po", this is the result of the bug:

Thank you, sssssheik.  Finally an answer that actually works!!  Just follow the instructions.  Another black mark against Apple's hasty iOS 9.1.

Yes, it helps. But as soon as I delete the Group, the error comes back.

Apple really must do something about it.

This is what worked for me: go to groups / uncheck all contacts / click done. Go back to groups / check all contacts again / click done.

This is solution for me: Go to Contacts, than click on the Groups and click Done.

Hello anyone...This the real solution. Dont have to reset your device, dont loose time and efforts. Try this method, it only takes 15 seconds.

So far the only solution that I've found is the following:

I added a new Gmail account to can see the option Groups, then I switched the contacts to new account (gmail) and typed to searching contacts and it worked so I get back and switched to my icloud contacts and done. That was I did to solve temporary this horrible bug. I hope next iOS version has a better upgrade!.

The thing that fixed my problem (after I tried all the others, hard reset, Groups/Done, etc.) was really figured out by understanding the problem I was having. After upgrading to ios 9.1, whenever I opened my Contacts all the contacts showed up, but when i searched for anything it said "No results".  I tried a variety of suggested fixes and none worked.  Then I noticed that when I went to Groups page, at the top of the page it read "Show All Contact" (which means the contacts are actually hidden). I clicked on it to toggle it to display "Hide All Contacts" (which means the Contacts are now displayed) and voila, problem permanently solved.  The bug was the contacts were being displayed even when the toggle was set to hidden (but evidently search "knew" they were hidden and therefore was returning no results). So the fix for me was to toggle "Show All Contacts" to 'Hide All Contacts". Hope this helps some of you.

This solution worked for me. No need to reset your phone. Just simple click click worked.

Go to Contacts, than click on the Groups and click Done.

It saved me lot. Apple has to check such bug before release the new update. It is pain for the customer although.

Guys, I have tried below solution and it worked like a charm without resetting my iPhone.

    • Go to Contacts
    • Click on Groups
    • Un-Check selected accounts and click on Done.
    • Go back to groups and select your old account and click on Done.

    This should help.

This all only helps temporarely. After restart the Problem persists. Especially after killing the Contacts App. The Only workaround which currently works, is creating an empty Group. But as soon aus this is deleted, all back to none.

not sure why you don't want to reset your phone...? BTW which IPhone do you have. We're not talking about the reset located in the Settings under the General Tab, this is like rebooting your computer when holding down the lock button & home button? You don't lose anything or your data is not lost or changed....

    Sorry can't help,

    M
