Canon MP620 can't scan after installing El Capitan (version 10.11.1)

After installing El Capitan a few days ago, my trusty Canon MP620 (not wireless) won't scan. It worked perfectly prior to instaling El Capitan. The printer works. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried:

  1. resintalling the Canon
  2. installed the El Capitan 10.11.1 update
  3. rebooted several times
  4. searched internet for solutions (came up with nothing)
  5. checked Canon for updated drivers (nothing)

I FINALLY GOT IT!!!

This is what finally worked for me:

delete the driver (finder, go, go to folder, /library, printers, canon)

emptied the trash

unplug USB from printer

turn off printer

restart iMac

Install driver (link in previous post)

plug in and power up printer

open system preferences/printers and scanners

add printer

VIOLA! It works now

Thanks for the help with the driver

I stumbled across this thread a couple of days ago as i had the same issue, with the same printer, and this has solved the problem :))

I bought my PC about 6 months ago (MacBook air) but have been away and not used it much I do have another query if anyone can help please. Ive not been able to get the double sided function to work when i go to print something? (It was fine on my old Windows laptop) There doesn't seem to be a selection for it in the print window? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmmm that's very interesting as I've been doing double sided printing on my old HP laptop, running Windows 7, for a few years. In the print box on the screen you got the option to do "duplex" or "print both sides.". The printer then printed out the odd number pages, feeding from the cassette tray, and then you turned them over and put them in the back tray, and it printed out the even number pages? Not sure if it still works with Windows 10, so I might try it when I get a bit of time. I guess it's a driver issue. Mind you they said it was wireless and I've never yet got that to work lol :))

thanks for your help.

This did not resolve my scanning problem. I tried to install the linked driver 4 times. The last time, I even went into Library and deleted the old driver before installing the new one... no luck. I still cannot scan. This printer is an amazing machine, and now it is going to be useless because of a lack of a driver. Canon does not have any downloads available for it on their website. Any suggestions?

I can still print, but just cannot scan. Grr...

I followed all these steps and the scanner still doesn't work for me. My printer/scanner is Canon MG5550.

Has anyone had to do something else?

It still says "Canon IJ Scan Utility2 quit unexpectedly"

The printer works! (even though it says status: idle for printer & scanner)

When you add the printer again, what do you chose in the drop down menu "use" (AirPrint, Canon MG5500 series,....?)

Should I download a driver that is NOT the one in previous post?

Sorry I'm really daft with computers

Many thanks!

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you... for that link to the "Drivers". I installed the Drivers, turned my Canon OFF than on again and my scanner was reborn... lucky for the scanner printer bc it was one more failed attempt to scan before it met the hardtop from the second floor..>!!! Thankfully this worked! Apple support community... the best!

Thanks for the info and the link to the driver. Your info solved the scanner problem for my MP360. The only difference is that I now have to open Printers and Scanners in Preferences then open the scanner from there. I can no longer choose Scan directly from the MP360 machine. The image capture window opens but can't find connected devices. At least I can use the scanner again though so I'm very pleased with that. :-)

Cheers.
