I have a Late 2009 Mac Pro Quad Core with 16GB of Ram. When this thing idles I get a your are our of virtual memory error all the times and the startup disk goes from 800GB free to 4Gb free. What could cause this? I'm on 10.11.1 and have cleared the cookies and cache. This seems to happen when it idles. I have already rebuilt the OS once on a different hard drive.

Open Activity Monitor, Show:>All Processes, sort on VM%, see if anything using too much VM% when this happens, click on Memory tab, what values show there?
Open Console in Applications>Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when this happens.

Looks like its sdmd which by what I have found is a Mac Os X Server glitch. Is there any fixes? I upgrade to 10.11.1 and the newest Server App.

Remove the Sophos product by following the instructions on this page, and also this one, if applicable. If you have a different version, the procedure may be different.
Back up all data before making any changes. Never install any "anti-virus" or "anti-malware" software again.

If the problem isn't solved, continue.
Launch the Activity Monitor application.
Select All Processes from the View menu, if not already selected, and also select the Disk tab.
Click the heading of the Bytes Read column in the process table to sort the entries by disk usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Repeat with the Bytes Written column.
Thank you but this happened before Sophos was installed. You do know macs get virus and malware right. Maybe you should read the whole post as the process is not Sophos causing the issue.
No. Macs do not get virus.
On top of that an AV package will not protect you from malware.
Either way the AV packages are worthless scams. Do as Linc says and uninstall it.
Really... You must not work in IT Macs do get virus rare but they do get them.
Sophos is worse than the imaginary "viruses" would be if they really existed, which they don't. After you have removed it, please take Step B and report your results.
Regardless the issue was there before Sophos. I fixed it by turning off iOS file sharing which solved it. I guess that's why Sophos is in the top for AV.....

Sorry to see you believe that. Personally I agree more with Linc about Sophos.
The current threats to your security on Macs require your complicity to get themselves installed. Anything that makes you feel like you are somehow "Protected" is not your friend. You need to be vigilant at all times, because they ARE out to get you.
Sophos is not the tool needed to protect you from current threats -- it just makes your Mac unstable while makes a Big Show scanning for non-threats.

I was just trying to add a comment into the general flow, and was not real careful about who I was replying to (sorry). It's clear I do not need to convince you, Allan Eckert that Sophos is not something to be running on your Mac.
