Ignoring that, do you have more than one email account?
Have you tried resetting the iPad? Hold the on/off and home buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.

Yes, I tried reseting both devices. No, I don't have more than one account (that happens to be a normal outlook account, not exchange).
