Q: Apple Macbook Pro (2011) + charging = erratic trackpad

Hi,

I have a problem with my Macbook Pro (2011).

As soon as I connect the charger the trackpad gets basically useless. It's erratic and don't really follow any commands.

BUT, however, if I touch somewhere outside of the trackpad (as if I was "grounding" the case) I can use the trackpad (almost as good as without the charger).

Works both by using the other hand, or slightly by touching outside of the trackpad with a finger from my "mouse-hand".

Just noticed also, that if I connect my iPhone to the USB the problem seems to follow into the touchscreen of the phone.

Seems to be some kind of static build up? Anyone know how to fix this?

Everything works fine without the charger attached, and it's an original charger.

Thanks for any possible input

I urge you to take off the bottom panel and inspect the battery.  On older MBPs the battery sometimes expands and interferes with the track pad.  If that is the case, the battery should be replaced immediately.

Here is an Apple troubleshooting article regarding track pads:

If no success, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar for a FREE evaluation.
