Q: The update has still not addressed the issue with the smtp servers not saving to individual accounts.

Following the 10.11.1 update I still cannot send mail, although the blank server bug has been fixed, when I select an SMTP server it applies that change to all email accounts on the Macbook. When I try to send it brings up the server selection dialog, but it still won't send. I have unchecked all the check boxes about automatically updating settings on the accounts and SMTP servers, but no luck so far. I'm running on a late 2008 MBP.

The first El Capitan release crippled my Mail programme, which I use for business and has one IMAP (iCloud) and eight SMTP accounts. I tried all sorts of workarounds, but ended up having to send "test" messages from each account upon launching Mail each morning, and confirming what the outgoing server should be when the dialogue box dropped down asking me this question. Two confirmations (at least) were needed for each mail account. Then sometimes in the outgoing server list everything except iCloud would be classed as Offline. It was terrible, like jumping back 15 years in technology.

So I thought when 10.11.1 promised to fix server problems in Mail, this would be my salvation. No it's not, it's just as bad. My thought? Someone at Apple decided that Mail needed "fixing", when it really didn't. So El Capitan introduced a new Mail feature that looked good on the drawing board, but didn't work in practice. I also bet they only tested it on iCloud servers and never bothered trying ordinary outgoing SMTP servers - you know, the ones the rest of us use.

I honestly thought we'd got past this point with new OS glitches, but apparently not.
