Q: iOS 9: Duplicated icons

Hello everyone.

Since iOS 9 is out, everytime (or almost everytime) I update an app I'm left with a duplicated "ghost" icon of the app in question.

This morning for example I updated Facebook, Messenger, iMovie and a few other apps...

And as you can see from the screenshot below, each of the above mentioned apps has that ghost/greyed out effect.

Basically when I update an app, I'm left with two icons: a normal one, that works (you can't see that on the screenshot, it's on another page of the springboard), and a ghost/greyed duplicate that doesn't work.

To fix this, I need to reset home screen layout, and the problem goes away.

It's still a bit annoying though.

This never happened in the past, it's only happening since I installed iOS 9.

At the beginning I thought that it could have been a bug of the new operating system, but it's still happening even with 9.1...

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I don't think so. As I said, when I call him the problem was resolved and I couldn't reproduce it. So he didn't open a case.

My hopes were dashed... Today 4 updates and 4 new duplicated icons after update them. See screenshots. I will contact Otto again to show him the reproduced error. This is awful...

I had forewarned you! It is the same situation as it was for me. As I told you, in my case this phenomenon had also gone, but came back later. I contacted the mentioned Spanish Senior Adviser too, but did not get any response. So it is up to you. It would be great, if you find a solution and post it in this thread. Thanks a lot.

Nothing new, Otto is not replying my emails. I will call him when I have time, you could also push him, he speaks English.

Okay, I think, you should contact the Apple Support again and ask for another Senior Adviser, because Otto does not answer my mails too. It is so annoying!

I can only repeat, what I have said before:

Contact Apple Support (https://getsupport.apple.com/) via telephone or chat and inform them about this phenomenon, because only a few users seem to be affected. It does not cost anything, if you request for a derogation because of upgrading to iOS 9. They will run a diagnostics test via internet und then report this glitch to their iOS developers. I think, this is the only way, how we can get rid of this problem. So please take the time to report. If anybody knows the solution, please post it in this thread. Thanks a lot. Hope to hear from you soon.

    Hello apfeleimer0815,

Nothing new. I don't to waste my time more with Apple...

I will wait for iOS 10. If the problem persists, we are ******.

Pity, but maybe you are right! We should not give a s_h_i_t about Apple! But I will predict, that there will be no fix with iOS 10, because they are not aware of this glitch!

i have the same issue iphone 6s+ and ios 9.3.3
what i did notice is that after restarting the phone, the ghost icons become the actual icons of the apps.
Also the ghost locations are where the apps icons are placed when they are been updated.
in my case i can see it clearly with the withings apps. i have the normal icon in the last page, while in my first page of apps (the first after the home), i can see it always happening with one particular app. but i dont think the problem is the app itself, because i have seen it with other apps.

i believe this could be in the same line as to an app remaining in the waiting state when updating.

for that app i mentioned before i turned off the wifi connection (i was accessing not so great connection public one), stopped the download, started again using mobile data and there were no signs of the ghost icon
