Q: HDCP not allowing itunes to work…
Hi,
I am a pretty loyal client of Apple.
I use iTunes, an iPhone, a macbook, two iMacs, a Mac Tower and so on…
I now have the issue, that many have had, I cannot play the media purchased via iTunes! There is an HDCP issue.
I understand that some blame MS, others Apple, others the studios etc…
Me, i do not really care as to who is to blame, what I do know is that I have legally purchased films, TV shows etc… and now, because devices were not in the chain, I cannot play them wherever, and whenever, I want, on my machines.
I have been looking at the iTunes contract. I would like to point out to Apple the following terms of your contract, that I have signed up to:
FAMILY SHARING
Family Sharing allows you to share eligible iTunes, App Store, Mac App Store, and iBooks Store products with up to six members (including yourself) of a “Family.” If you set up or join a Family, you may view the eligible products of other Family members and download such products to your compatible device or computer.
USAGE RULES
i You shall be authorized to use iTunes Products only for personal, noncommercial use.
ii You shall be authorized to use iTunes Products on five iTunes-authorized devices at any time, except for Content Rentals (see below)…
vii You shall be able to manually sync a movie from at least one iTunes-authorized device to devices that have manual sync mode…
viii An HDCP connection is required to view content transmitted over HDMI…
HIGH-DEFINITION (HD) ITUNES PRODUCTS
HD iTunes Products are viewable only on HD capable devices; however, HD iTunes Products purchased (not rented) include a standard-definition version for use on non-HD devices…
MISCELLANEOUS
This Agreement constitutes the entire agreement between you and Apple and governs your use of the iTunes Service, superseding any prior agreements between you and Apple…
I am NOT a legal expert, however, I have tried to view my content, that I have purchased, using VGA, DVi etc… and the movies etc… will still NOT play.In the terms and conditions, that I have signed up to, it clearly states that I can share content across my family; it states that i can connect to authorized devices, it clearly states that ONLY if trasmitting via an HDMI connection is an HDCP conenction required.
The terms, that I have signed up to, say NOTHING about the need for HDCP connections using any other connection.
The agreement that I have signed up to, is complete, it says so.
Therefore, I believe that Apple is breaching the terms and conditions of iTunes, that they have also offered to me, by now requiring me to have an HDCP connection when viewing via VGA, DVi etc…
I now, formally and respectfully request, that Apple refund every subscription that I have made, and for every single purchase that I have made, via the iTunes store, and in store purchase, as the equipment that you have provided me with, and the software that you have provided me with, is no longer up to the job of meeting your own contract that you have offered, and I have accepted with iTunes.
If anyone knows of a decent lawyer, who is willing to start a class action, against Apple, and the video and studio industry, then please let me know.
Many thanks.
AB.
