Q: Apple ID

Hello all!  After being an Android user for 4 years, I finally made the switch to Apple 2 months ago!  Best decision ever!  I need some help though.

My wife has been on Apple for years and is having trouble with her Apple ID.  Here is the issue.....She set up her Apple ID in Aug 2013.  Our daughter then got an Ipad in Dec 2013.  Wife used her Apple ID to set up the Ipad.  Now, we are having problems with updates and such so we want to remove her ID from the Ipad and set up a brand new.  How do we do this so that we can break the link between the two?

Thanks,

iPhone 6 Plus, iOS 9.1

    Thanks,

What kind of problems with updates? Anything on the daughter's iPad is locked to the Apple ID used to purchase/download the content. You cannot transfer that. You can set up the iPad as new, and I'm assuming you want to remove your wife's Apple ID from the device and have your daughter use hers. If that is the case, you can use Family Sharing, depending on the daughter's age, to share content. Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support

If this is not what you are referring to, then you will need to explain further.

Use a new valid email address and create an Apple ID below:

    https://appleid.apple.com

On iPad, make sure Find My iPad is off in Settings > iCloud.

Then tap in Settings > General > Reset > Erase All Content & Settings

The above will make the iPad brand new.

After that, set the iPad up with the new Apple ID.

If I Erase All Content on the iPad and set up a new ID, how can I get all of her apps back?

You would either have to download them again with the new Apple ID, or use Family Sharing and share the apps from your account. Right now they are apps that were downloaded with your account, which is what you are trying to get rid of. Or transfer those purchases to her iTunes library on the computer and authorize the iPad to use both accounts. However, if she uses the apps from your account, she will still need your password to update them since, as I stated earlier, the apps will be locked to the Apple ID used to purchase/download the content. If they are downloaded with her new Apple ID, then there will not be a need for your ID and password.

So I can transfer all content from the iPad to iTunes then set up a new ID and then transfer the content from iTunes back to the iPad with the new ID?

Yes, but you will still need your password for updates. Then she can download from iTunes with her new Apple ID as long as she is signed in with the new Apple ID in the iTunes & App Store on the iPad.
