Q: Does the iCloud backup your iMessages?

So I'm thinking about getting the iPhone 6s Plus (I have the 6 Plus), and was wondering if doing a backup on the iCloud and/or your computer (I have a Mac Pro) save your iMessages? My texts and such and history of them mean a lot to me, and was wondering if restoring the new phone with a backup or whatever saved on iCloud or computer gets my iMessages back? Or does it start from scratch? I know it backs up contacts and the like, but what about all my messages and the history of them? I have searched the internet and it's all different stuff on the matter, so I would ask here.

Thanks!

Yes, either iCloud or iTunes backup will backup your messages and if you restore another device, it will restore the messages. This support document describes what is backed up in each of the different versions. About backups in iCloud and iTunes - Apple Support

IF you have the computer then the best way i find is to backup to iTunes. What you do is when you backup your iDevice in iTunes is takes like a basic clone and you are missing some information although your text messages and call logs are backed up. When you connect the device and tick the Encrypt Backup option in iTunes and add a password it takes a full clone of your phone and also allows for restoring your phone to remove the pin if you forget it as long as you know the iTunes backup password. Can also save a lot of hassle by encrypting because without the encrypted backup you lose health data and passwords that arent in iCloud Keychain (depending on whether you use it or not)
