Q: How do I get my ipod touch 5th generation out of the recovery mode when it can't update to the new ios9 software?

I recently attempted to update my ipod touch 5th generation to the new ios9 software. The update reached the end of its loading but wasn't going any farther so I shut off my ipod (held the power and home button together to manually re-start it). When I turned it back on, the error screen for recovery mode showed up and instructed I connect my ipod to itunes. I did but for the past day I've been unable to download the new software - it'll download for 2 hours then in the last 5 minutes have a 9006 error code show up that says it was unable to reach the server. I can't reach Apple Support because my ipod is my phone and I can't use it and the chat isn't working for whatever reason. I'm dying slowly, can someone please help?
