Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It is my understanding iTunes does not recognize the device on a Mac. I would recommend you read this article, it should be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

I have tried everything what is recommended in the article. I also uninstalled antivirus software (AVIRA), restarted Mac but it didn't help. I still have iPod icon on my desktop but not in iTunes. There was only one way how to get iPod icon in iTunes visible - when iTunes was running and iPod was connected and no iPod icon in iTunes was seen I restarted this connected iPod and after that, when iPod was on again, the icon of iPod showed up in iTunes but it was inactive. When I clicked on the iPod icon nothing happened. I attached a pic. I really don't understand this problem, it appeared after iTunes update as I have written.
