iCloud/iDrive Backup - Startup Disk Full

My startup disk is full on my MacBook Pro. Can I use iCloud/iDrive to backup my entire computer? This includes InDesign, Photoshop, Word, files. Is iCloud the way to go or something like Dropbox. I have a 2TB external drive for backup but would like to explore cloud storage options. Open to suggestions if iCloud does not provide full computer backup/storage.
