Q: safari 9.0 freezing with tcp_connection_tls-error

I've just updated El Capitan to 10.11.1 and Safari has become useless. It freezes every couple of minutes and Console is saturated with these messages.

Would anyone have an idea what this is about? I can use Chrome without issue but would like to use Safari.

Thanks

    Try a restart.

Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

Isolating an issue by using another user account

If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Do you use iCloud Keychain, or do you synchronize Safari with iCloud?

    HI Eric

    Thank you for your reply.

I created another account with Admin privileges and reviewed the Console messages. The same tcp and keychain warnings for appeared but Safari didn't seem to freeze. I spent about an hour with it, on my user account the freezes were within a few seconds of using it.

There was nothing physically connected to the Macbook and I disabled all the Safari extensions.  I did however, sync my phone and iPad through iTunes  on my Macbook before creating the new account. I had downloaded updates to both directly to the devices and not through iTunes.

I still see the messages on Console but haven't had any problems since syncing.

    Hi Linc

    Thanks for your help.

I use iCloud Keychain...I think. Under  iCloud in System Preferences Keychain is ticked.

I had downloaded some updates directly to my iPhone and iPad before the El Capitan update had been applied but hadn't synced them back to my Macbook via iTunes. I don't know if that would be an issue but now I've done that I've not had any freezes yet.

    Thank you for your interest

    Hemmer.

good point Linc, I will turn off Keychain and play... thanks for the tip. I will let you know too.

Makes real good sense, especially if Apple is having issues with iCloud.

Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain and Safari boxes. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm—the data will remain on the servers. Test Safari. Then re-check the boxes. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test again.

    Hi Linc

I have tried all you stated and more. Still happens.

    Safari[430]: KeychainGetICDPStatus: keychain: -25300

tons and tons of these entries.

And I mean I have tried it all to no avail.

    Thanks

    Thanks for the reply Linc.

I unchecked the Keychain and Safari boxes, followed the process through but the error messages still remain and Safari is next to useless.

However when I moved from a prepaid 3G wireless dongle back to my landline wireless the Safari freezing stopped.

    The error messages

    31/10/2015 7:19:24.389 AM Safari[3348]: KeychainGetICDPStatus: keychain: -25300

    31/10/2015 7:19:24.389 AM Safari[3348]: KeychainGetICDPStatus: status: off

    31/10/2015 7:19:54.306 AM Safari[3348]: KeychainGetICDPStatus: keychain: -25300

    31/10/2015 7:19:54.306 AM Safari[3348]: KeychainGetICDPStatus: status: off

are still abundant but Safari is running at full pace.

Same problem here with OS X 10.11.4 and Safari 9.1

I tried Linc's solution but no results. It depends indeed on the network I'm on.
