Q: Apple Music not working on iPhone 6 after iOS 9.1

I foolishly updated both iPhone 6 and iPad Mini with the new iOS 9.1 on the day of release, and spent all day yesterday trying to make Apple Music work. around 11pm, it finally worked on my iPad after login/signing on and off for a few hours, today it shows everything fine, but don't play anything. After communicating with Apple Music Help on Twitter I decided to re-install it all on the iPhone 6, hours of the signing on and off frozen, Apple Music on the phone shows For You, New and Connect OK, but won't play, Radio doesn't load at all and My Music is empty, not linking to my Music Match on ICloud. Now (Saturday 16:26), I can only listen to my music and Beats 1 from my main MacBook Pro... I definitely think this iOS 9.1 is a massive mistake. I am trying to reset my iPhone from scratch as I type this, backing it up from the Cloud from 3 days ago, but I launched this 1 hour ago and it still does nothing.... Not very convenient to do the Beats Run tomorrow if I need to png in my laptop in a rucksack as no small device is usable.

ive been having the same issue since I upgraded to 9.1.  A tech suggested that it's because inhave iTunes Match and Apple Music subscriptions.

has anyone tried upgrading to 9.2 beta two that was released today to see if there was a fix?

Just wanted to add that this happened on all 4 of the iPhones in my family, which definitely points to an App Store/Apple ID issue.

Does anyone know if Apple is indeed aware of this and working on it?

From a different thread, here's something to try to see if it helps:

Re: iPhone 6+ | iOS 9.0.1 | icloud music library just won't load - can't sync music from itunes | MUSIC IS COMPLETELY BR…

Briefly, make an encrypted backup to iTunes.  Then wipe your phone and set it up as new.  Log into iCloud, Apple Music, App Store, iTunes Store, etc.  Once you're all logged into those services, play around with them to see if they work or not.  Regardless of whether they work or not, proceed to restore from your encrypted backup (DO NOT wipe your phone before this step - you are restoring from your backup ON TOP of the "new" iPhone you just created and logged into).

See what happens and if issues get resolved or not.

I'm not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but I've been having it since all of these problems began. If I go into Settings -> iTunes & App Stores, under my Apple ID at the top, the option for Password Settings is missing. If I try to go into Settings -> General and try to tap Restrictions, it freezes for while (30 seconds or more), and then eventual takes me into the Restrictions menu. If I go into Settings -> Touch ID & Passcode, the option to toggle iTunes & App Store (to use Touch ID for purchases) is off. If I try to turn it on, I SHOULD get a prompt to enter my Apple ID password, but I don't. Instead it just toggles to green. But if I go back one level (to Settings) and then back into Touch ID & Passcode, the iTunes & App Store toggle is turned off. No matter how many times I try, it turns itself off.

This seems like there's a conflict between these menus that require you to use your Apple ID password to download apps in music. Could this be the main reason why we're all prevented from updating, downloading apps, listening to music, and downloading music?

Apple are aware of this. I spoke to someone from support and my case has been escalated to the engineering team. I'm sure there are enough escalations now that it's on their radar.

Quite whether there's a fix anytime soon remains to be seen.

For now my fix has been to create a new iTunes account and link it to my family account. The new account thereby has access to all my apps etc. and has Apple Music (I have a family subscription).

Meanwhile I'm still logged into iCloud with my normal account, so I still get all my photos, emails, calendars, etc

It's not an ideal Apple user experience, but I suspect it will be many weeks before a fix is out. So at least I can get by for a while with this approach.

I’m installing the Public Beta of iOS 9.2. That way, I’ll at least have a feedback pipeline to let Apple know about any bugs I find. I’ll report back after I’ve done some testing with the beta operating system.

IIt's ridiculous that the only fix they had (downgrading to 9.0.2) isn't available anymore.   I've been patient about this but I'm starting to get a little ******

We had same issue after updating a brand new 6s to 9.1. When you launch music, it just hangs with the rainbow crowd image.  After trying a lot of things, a reset network connections fixed it.  We upgraded in the hope of less bugs, as 9.02 froze on us several times a day requiring a hard reset, something we have not seen in the last 5 years of using iphones.  The quality of the updates is getting poorer - it will put people off updating at all.

Believe me. If you're problems are like the rest of us on here, your fix of resetting network settings is only a temporary one. We've all discovered temporary fixes. The only permanent fix seems to be downgrading to 9.02.

i did the airplane mode fix and it worked for about an hour And a half.  I was able to re download all of my key apps that I use for work on a daily basis.  For now I'm happy but it stopped working when I web into the podcast app.  Ugh.

Loaded in iOS 9.2 Public Beta. All problems persist. With many restarts, I've gotten everything working well for a couple hours. But it always goes back to all the common problems. One good thing is that there's a Feedback app so I can get the problem more directly in front of Apple.

IPad was behaving perfectly since Monday night. Just now it went back no music, no links, etc

iphone earlier tried to load my music library, then screen went to black with the apple in the middle, ready to reboot something, left it to do so, slider never moved under the apple and phone went very hot. So I guess that one is totally dead now. Turned off IPad, only mobile device working: that IPod touch (9.02) I want to return for refund on Monday before the refund policy expires, as I don't want an IPod! I only want my IPhone and IPad to work!. Now I am starting to lose my cool....

The airplane mode fix worked for me for about 24 hours before giving out. Oh well.

For people new to the thread I would really strongly discourage you from restoring your phone - still seeing some people recommend this and frankly it's a high-risk low-reward strategy. In my case it didn't fix anything and I ended up losing years worth of third party app data because the backup didn't properly store my apps (seeing as link to App Store is currently broken).

Gotta say, I've had iPhones for six years and I never once considered switching, but the last couple weeks it is definitely crossing my mind. Apple needs to find a way to get these software updates under control, they just progressively get buggier and buggier.
