Q: I opened my iTunes library & received a prompt that there's a new version of iTunes 12.1.3 & I clicked on yes to download the new version but it took me to the iTunes Store.  If I download & install the new version will it erase my existing library?

Not unless a problem occurs. Back it up first.

When I tried to install the new version of ITunes, a prompt came up where I have to determine which folder to install the updated version.  Do I choose the folder where my ITunes library is saved?  Thanks.

No, the folders used to install iTunes software should be completely separate from those in which your library is stored.  Unless you've got really good reasons for doing otherwise you should accept the default installation location:

    • for a 32-bit edition of Windows, or the full 64-bit version of iTunes on a 64-bit edition of Windows this is C:\Program Files\iTunes
    • for the "for older video cards" version of iTunes (32-bit application) on a 64-bit edition of Windows this is C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
