FaceTime will not open since updating to El Capitan.

I just updated my macbook pro to El Capitan, and it has since stopped opening FaceTime. I received an email stating that my Apple ID was being used for Messages and FaceTime on my macbook, so I know the Apple ID used is correct, but when I click on the FaceTime application, I receive an error message that says "An internal FaceTime error has occurred. There was a problem with FaceTime. You need to quit and open FaceTime again."

Of course, quitting and reopening does no good.

Please help!

Hi ManSinha,

Yes, I have tried shutting down/rebooting/restarting my computer multiple times, with no change.

Additionally, I have noticed that FaceTime does work on the guest account on my computer, but still not on my administrative account.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

View ▹ Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that isn't working the way you expect. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

Some private information, such as your name or email address, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the log extract, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "The message contains invalid characters." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the text on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

Thank you. Both FaceTime and Messages started working. Nothing I was trying worked. I think there is some database that is somehow connected between the two and it simply took time to update/sync with iCloud or whatever. The problem is that the Upgrading Database message in Messages is not accurate and it goes away and leads you to believe its ready. But its not. No Messages would open and most of the menus were grayed out. If you quit, it wouldn't allow you to reopen. You could force quit, but that would just lead back to opening with the "Upgrading Database" alert.

After trying to fix the problem I gave up. A couple hours later I tried again, opened up Messages and it worked no problem. FaceTime too.

All it took was some patience. Because I don't think any of the steps i found in other discussions on the topic helped. I think once opened it just keeps restoring the database in the background until its ready.
