Is Remote app limited to use with MAC? Can it be used between Ipad and Mini??

I use Ipad (3) and until my netbook crashed and died was able to use the remote to control the old ITunes. Now I am still using the Ipad and a mini to run "Music". I have home sharing on on both devices. I can't connect. The remote wants to pair with a number and I do not see anything on the mini that would allow a pair number to be inserted in the Music program????

Can anyone help or is this just incompatability with a mini. The help notes talk in terms of connecting Remote to TV or MAC. The Mini is definately not a MAC???
