How can I rescue my Aperture library?

I know I should have looked before I leapt, but I just installed El Capitan and my Aperture 3.3 stopped working. I tried to migrate the library into iPhotos and it tells me I need to upgrade to Aperture 3.6. Which isn't available in the UK. Is there another way I can do this?

The "Not available in the UK is a bogus message you receive, when you try to update.

Updating does not work anymore for any country, since Apple stopped selling Aperture from the AppStore.

You need to reinstall instead of updating. But reinstalling requires, that you have an Aperture version, thetis associated with your AppleID at the AppStore. Does Aperture show in your Purchases History? The fourth tab of the AppStore?

If yes, then move the incompatible Aperture application from the Applications folder to the Trash, don't empty the Trash, then restart the App Store. Now your Aperture version in the Purchases history (the fourth tab of the AppStore) should show "Install" instead of "Update". If you see "Install" click it. If you still see Update, look for Aperture versions on connected backup drives and disconnect them. Then try again.
If you do not see Aperture among your purchase history, you can only update with the help of Apple Support. Try to talk the App Store Support into issuing a redeem code, so you can download the update.

If all fails, you can open your Aperture Library in the new Photos.app.

Photos is supposed to be able to convert any Aperture Library to Photos format. It will create a migrated copy.
