Q: Keynote, pages, and numbers documents disappeared from iPhone. Please help.

All of my Keynote, Pages, and Numbers documents are missing from my iPhone. They are still accessible on my iPad. How can I get them back on my iPhone?

I don't know. I have not knowingly added them to iCloud. When I went to iCloud to see if the documents were there, a message tells me that I must update my operating system to IOS 8 and start using iCloud Drive to access my documents. I have an older iPhone and iPad (purchased in April of 2012) with limited memory. Due to the limited memory, the last time I did an update, I had to remove almost everything from the devices (photos, documents, and applications) in order to free up enough space to do the update. This was a MAJOR hassle. As a result, I have not  updated to iOS 8. I may have accidentally started an update on the iPhone since it keeps telling me that it must temporarily delete an application to complete the update. I still have access to the documents on my iPad and I do not want to lose them from that device as well.

I don't think I can be of much help ... other than to strongly suggest you go to the trouble of updating all your iOS devices.  I don't honestly recall how pre-iOS 8 Keynote, Numbers, and Pages behaved.  The applications have undergone significant modifications and improvements since that time.

I'm guessing (but am not certain) you are saying both your iPad and iPhone are on some very old version of iOS.  (Current iOS version is 9.1.)

If you think there is a chance your documents may be in iCloud, another way to check this would be to use your computer's (not iPhone or iPad) browser to visit http://www.icloud.com.  You will find Numbers, Pages and Keynote available for your use there.  You can also access iCloud documents from there.

By the way, starting with iOS 9 (perhaps as early as iOS 8.3), Apple has shrunk the iOS update package size.
