Audiobook plays in reverse chapter order

iPod shuffle plays audiobook chapters in reverse order. This started started several syncs ago. frustrated. I have rebooted. I have restored the iPod. Software is up-to-date. I have resynced iPod I have doubled checked my double check and shuffle is NOT on in iTunes or on the iPod. The list order in iTunes is correct and displays correctly under iPod "summary" audiobook list. suggestions?
