Q: HDMI cable audio problems

I have connected my laptop to my smart tv to watch sports-the picture is great but no sound transfer to tv-sound comes only from laptop. How do I remedy this?

What model laptop?  The early MacBooks did not support audio through Mini DisplayPort.
