It sounds like you may be running into a few issues when attempting to update your iPad’s apps from your Mac. I think the first error you are getting is stemming from an attempted backup that would be initialized before the apps are updated. Troubleshoot this as you would any other issues with backing up your iPad using the steps in this article:

The next error you are seeing comes from an inability to connect to the iTunes Store, so try the steps in this article to address that issue:
