Q: Airport Extreme Timed access

I have been using Airport Extreme's timed access and now it's not working correctly.  When I add the time access I lose all wireless connectivity on all wireless devices.  This just started happening after months of no issues.  I am trying to limit the access on one particular device (iPad).  Any ideas on what the issue is?

If you are only trying to limit access on one device, and you have set up a number of "rules" in the past with Timed Access, the best thing to do would be to delete all of the rules that you have entered, restart the AirPort Extreme and then set up the rule that you need for the iPad.

So, open up Timed Access and delete any of the special rules that you have set up in the past, so the only setting that remains is the default "unlimited" setting, then click the Save button at the lower right. Your screen will look like this.

Then click Update at the lower right and let the AirPort Extreme restart.

Power off all of the devices on the network now, in any order that you want

    Wait a minute

Power up the modem and let it run a full minute

Power up the next device connected to the modem and let it run a full minute

Keep starting devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is back up

Check to verify that the wireless network is working correctly

Post back on your progress, and if all is well, we'll set up the iPad for Timed Access.

You will need the WiFi Address of the iPad to do this, so when you have a chance.....

Tap Settings on the home screen

    Tap General

    Tap About

Scroll down to locate the WiFi Address and write down that code very carefully

No, this did not work.  I think it may be an iMac issue.  The minute I remove the timed access all wifi works on all devices as well as the iMac.  When I have the timed access activated it won't allow my iMac or my iPhone to work.  After resetting per your instructions, the iPad was working with wifi, but not my phone or the iMac.  It's very weird.  I contacted apple support yesterday and they gave me the same old spiel that it was a iMac issue and they set up an alternate location for accessing wifi, but even that didn't work.  It worked for a little while yesterday, but as soon as the timed access limit was reached wifi service was disabled on all devices.  This is a new problem, so I'm unclear what prompted it.

If it were me, this is what I would do.

Power off the iMac and leave it off

Reset the AirPort Extreme back to factory default settings

Set up the AirPort Extreme again using another Mac, an iPhone or iPad.....using a new wireless network name and wireless password

Check the network with one device at a time, then work up to all devices at the same time, but continue to leave the iMac off.

If everything appears to be working, then set up the Timed Access settings.

Check the network one device at a time, then with all devices. Leave the iMac off.

If everything appears to be working, start up the iMac and connect to the new network.

If you decide to try this, please post back on your results.

Ok, I called apple support again.  The issue was a mistake in settings.  Apparently, I had selected a restriction on all the rest of the wifi access.  smh!  Thanks for your help, and sorry got us both confused.  I will save your directions for future reference!
