Using a Japanese SIM in an Australian iPhone 6

Hi,

I'm moving to Japan soon, and does anyone know if I can use a SIM from a Japanese carrier in my Australian iPhone 6? Don;t want to go to the expense of getting a new phone if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance.

Howdy kamonohashi,

I understand that you'd like to continue using your iPhone 6 (purchased in Australia) in Japan once you've moved there. Fortunately this can be done, so long as your current carrier and carrier in Japan are both in the list below. You'll also need to ensure that your iPhone is unlocked by your current carrier before it can be used on another carrier's network.

Australia

  • iiNet
  • Optus (including Virgin)
  • Telstra
  • Vodafone

Japan

  • KDDI
  • NTT docomo
  • Softbank

How to unlock your iPhone for use with another carrier

Sincerely
