Can I run windows 7 on my imac mid 2010, without making a partition in my internal HD?

I have a 32GB flash drive, Bootcamp downloads the windows support software to my Flash Drive USB, but then it will only continue if I make a partition in my internal Mac hard drive.

I don't want to do this on my internal because I'm low on RAM, is there anyway I can get bootcamp to make windows 7 bootable on my Flash drive instead. It seems to be giving me no choice, but to do the partition.

iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

BC/Windows can be installed only on PCI, SATA (internal) or Thunderbolt (external) storage.

I don't have much room left on my internal, so I guess I'll have to wait until I upgrade my mac.

Incidently, how many GB should I allow for the installation windows 7 partition on my internal? Considering I've got 180 GB free, out of 500GB. Just incase I decide to go ahead with the partition.

I recommend about 100GB for Windows. You have 180GB, so 80GB remaining for OSX should be fine.
